Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions we hear most about using Lunar.

Which mode should I choose?

Study for guided explanations of new topics, Learn for exploring connections, Review to consolidate what you have already covered, and Research for demanding analysis that checks evidence in rounds. When in doubt, start with Study — the mode changes the conversation style, not your history.

What is the difference between Lunar Classic and Lunar Creative?

Classic is the default: deep, pedagogical and consistent for everyday study. Creative is the long-context variant (up to a million tokens) with a more flexible, creative style — ideal for long documents and heavy accumulated context. Both run the same concept tree and the same full tool set; the difference is style, not capability. See Models for the full comparison.

Can I use my own documents?

Yes. Attach files to a message for one-off questions, or upload them to your Space's library so every conversation in that Space can draw on them. Pointed questions about specific sections get the best results.

What is the difference between the concept tree and the study map?

They answer different questions. The concept tree (especially at Space level) shows everything covered across sessions — "what have we touched in this subject?". The study map is per session — "what did we see in this class?" — and adds flashcards, tests and summaries on top.

Do microchats need setup or cost anything?

No. Microchats open from the conversation when a topic deserves depth, and their context files are generated automatically when you close them. You can edit the files yourself, and your edits are always preserved.

Does Lunar remember what we covered in previous classes?

Yes — that is one of its core design goals. Spaces carry a purpose and instructions you write, each chat tracks a living session context, and Space-level memory and covered topics make new chats aware of prior learning. See How Lunar remembers.

What languages does Lunar support?

The interface and this documentation are available in English and Spanish (switch in your account settings, or with the EN/ES selector here in the docs). In conversation, Lunar follows the language you write in.

Do I need an account to use Lunar?

You can try it without one, but anonymous usage is limited and does not persist across devices. Creating an account is what makes your chats, Spaces and files saved and available everywhere. See Privacy and security for what is stored.
